For 30 years, the Harpswell Lobster Boat Races have attracted fishermen, boat builders, and race fans alike due to the venue’s extreme beauty and fun, family atmosphere.
After a 4-year hiatus due to a shortage of volunteer help, the townspeople of Harpswell rejoined Maine’s summer lobster boat racing circuit circuit in 2018 — and they have continued to band together since.
The 30th annual Harpswell Lobster Boat Races Will Take Place Sunday, July 24th 2022 In Potts Harbor. The Races are best watched by water, and will feature 29 race classes with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finish.
“Anyone who knows Harpswell understands how much this event has meant to our town,” said Larry Ward, Harpswell Lobster Boat Races Committee Member, in 2018. “We’ve been enjoying the races in our town for nearly 30 years, and most of us have grown up looking forward to them every Summer. It was a shame that Harpswell had to take a break due to a shortage of volunteers, but I can assure you we’re stronger than ever and we’re all committed to making this a great venue for locals, tourists and surrounding businesses for generations to come.”
While Larry sadly passed away in 2019, the crew he assembled — lovingly referred to as "Larry's Angels" — continues to carry the torch in his honor to make this a great event for all.
